AQA A Level Year 1/AS
We use this book in addition to a formal textbook. My students like the clear diagrams and explanations. For those who find some concepts difficult the book explains them in a slightly different way allowing access. For the top end students they can be a resource for encouraging them to go beyond the syllabus.
The checklist pages, clear questions (which really test the syllabus) and 'do you know' sections are very user friendly and do not feel like a formal textbook at all.
For the new syllabus the maths explanations and required practical sections look very useful. Also the highlighting of the ATs.
The book looks just as useful (maybe more so) than the old one.
Useful in class generally and for the least and most able in different ways.

A really useful resource, I will be using this book a lot!
I really love how each page summaries the Biological concept, but in quite a lot of detail. The questions ensure that students understand the basics and push them to think a little harder than they might on their own.
A really useful resource, I will be using this book a lot!

They make setting homework easy!
As for the reasons that I like the workbooks:
• They make setting homework easy,
• New students to the course find it easy to find extra reading to do.
• It is cheaper than photocopying.
• They are ideal for flip learning, getting the students to complete the reading and questions prior to a lesson is excellent assessment for learning and allows me to focus on the misconceptions and higher level work.
• My students loved the cut and stick activities.
• The learning outcomes are clearly displayed at the start of each topic.
In the lesson we start by going through the BIOZONE answers with students marking their own. This gives us a start point for the conversation about the topic. Marking the work, getting students to compare and decide on the best answer gives me an opportunity to assess their knowledge and understanding as the starting point for my teaching. Avoiding going over the simple content all the students understand and allowing us to focus on the higher level detail and application of the knowledge.
If students or staff are away, they know where they are up to and can continue at home ensuring that they keep on top of things and don’t fall behind.
